There are so many choices out there when it comes to widgets or plugins that allow people to connect with you while on your blog or website. In fact, developers often say why even bother with a plugin, when some simple code will do the trick. But, hey, not all of us think even the simplest of code is that simple.
What I have found is the Simple Social Icon plugin. And damn, it’s simple. But simplicity isn’t the best thing about it. The fact that you can choose the color and brand it to your site makes it even better. No more mismatch of Facebook, Twitter, etc colored icons that clash with your sites colors. Check mine in the sidebar to see what I am talking about.
Simply install the plugin and drag it into your preferred sidebar. As you can see below, setting up is very simple!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for this post I was looking for something a little more subtle and visually appealing to share our social media channels on the seatextileexpo website.
@StevenMatsumoto seatextileexpo Very cool. Yes, sometimes those blaring colors of all the original icons can be distracting and ugly ; )
Very nice, though the negative space has an optical illusion, the “grey dots” in the intersections, making it displeasing to look at.
Would be great if you could adjust spacing and upload your own icons.
@Yaco Roca that’s an interesting observation… I see what you mean but have never really thought about that. Never has bothered me ; )
@Yaco Roca if you want one that allows you to use your own icons, I believe Social Media widgets allows you to do at least 4 or 6 custom icons
@bobWP Thanks Bob, looks good, i’ll definitely give it a try for my blog, which is in the works right now.
Perhaps its my eyes, such effects make my eyes feel like they’re bouncing, though I agree the icons look quite sober.
@Yaco Roca very cool, and I think the other thing is most folks just have 2 or 3, which set on one line and doesn’t have that affect so much…
